Guide to the ISBE Assessment Survey 2016-17
October 18, 2016
The ISBE Assessment Survey 2016-17 was a direct response to PA 99-590, which was signed into law on July 22. The legislation, sponsored by Representative Will Guzzardi (D- Chicago) and Senator Iris Martinez (D-Chicago), requires each school district to report to ISBE information concerning the administration of assessments to students at each school. The law also requires schools to make public the information submitted through the school district’s website or distribution in paper form.
A survey form was created using Survey Monkey software and districts/schools were directed on Thursday, October 6, 2016, to begin using the website to enter information on the standardized tests administered by each school, with a deadline of Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
The survey sought information on each assessment administered at the school and asked for the:
*Grade level tested
*Which assessment is given
*The duration of the assessment window
*Who requires the assessment
*The student population tested
*The total average time for completion
*The primary use of the assessment
It should be noted that this was the first-ever data collection of its kind in Illinois and that modifications to the data collection instrument are being planned for future use.
In addition, it is important to note here that assessment windows for certain tests (e.g., PARCC, DLM, ACCESS) run for multiple weeks and that instruction can continue during those times. Representing those windows can be a challenge, so when reading the results, please be aware that a test’s ending date may fall in a succeeding month.

The assessment survey results have been posted to an Excel spreadsheet.
