If you answered yes to any of these questions, then don’t forget that Penny Wars Week 2 begins tomorrow! Make sure to bring pennies and dollars for your grade level and silver coins for your enemies. Please know the health and safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We have been actively monitoring the outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-19). To date there are no reports of cases involving Coronavirus disease COVID-19 in our area. A fifth case of Coronavirus COVID-19 has been confirmed in Illinois and all individuals infected are from in or around Chicago. Since late January, our Regional Office of Education has been working to ensure timely and accurate information is provided to the districts they serve related to Coronavirus (Covid-19). As a result, they have created a Google Drive Folder to provide school superintendents with up-to-date information to assist them in making informed decisions for their respective districts (we have been receiving daily updates since this started). Also, starting next week (March 9th), they will be on a weekly call with the Tazewell County Health Department to remain informed of this ever-evolving situation and pass along updates to us. In addition, on March 12th the Regional Office of Education #53 and Public Health Administrators will host an informational meeting on Covid-19/Coronavirus for local school district administrators. We are grateful to our parents for promoting healthy habits at home with their children. Please keep reminding your children of these: (1) Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. (2) Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. (3) Avoid close contact with people who are sick. (4) Stay home when you are sick. (5) Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. (6) Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. We wish you all the best!

WASHINGTON, ILLINOIS March 6, 2020 PRESS RELEASE On March 5, 2020 a notebook containing a handwritten list of several pupils created by a Beverly Manor School student that threatened “revenge” against those on the list was turned in to Beverly Manor School administration. Upon learning about the list, administrators immediately commenced an investigation which included involvement of law enforcement. Based on our investigation, we were able to identify the student responsible, speak with the student at some length, and conclude that the student did not intend to carry out any threat. Nevertheless, such threats are not tolerated and appropriate steps are being taken to hold the responsible student accountable. Parents of students on the list were contacted by administration to inform them of the matter.

January Students of the Month @ Beverly Manor We are excited to announce our star students from January and their nomination reasons. I hope they enjoyed their candy bars! Emma Linn: Emma is a polite, respectful, organized, and responsible young woman. She will do anything for anyone. It is rare for an 8th grader to put aside any "social norms" and help any student who needs it. Elijah Eckart: Elijah is a kind, responsible student. He is very respectful to all staff and peers. He is attentive in class, helpful to his classmates, cheerful, and polite to teachers and staff members! Landin Ruff: All three teachers agree that he is a good choice. He is quiet and respectful, gets his work done, and is an ideal student. Jordan Phegley: Jordan is consistently following the classroom. She always does the right thing and is a constant helper in the classroom. Connor Wiese: He has great academic standing and shows model student qualities. Pierce Bernius: Pierce is new to Beverly Manor this year, and he has absolutely rocked 6th grade. Pierce works extremely hard every school day. His star test scores have skyrocketed, and his class grades reflect his dedication to his school work. Pierce asks for help when he needs it, always makes sure no one is left out, and asks for extra practice materials to take home. Even though the flu tried to get Pierce down, he won't let it! He stayed on top of all his school work and even did extra. Pierce makes me so proud to be his teacher! Julia Johnson: Julia is a very hard-working student who always gives 100%. She is the first to volunteer to help other students and the teacher no matter what that work may entail. She is a true leader to her peers and those around her. Julia always makes responsible decisions to better herself and her classmates. Austin McCoy: Austin is really good at staying focused on his school work and getting it done in a timely manner. He is always responsible and stays on top of making sure he always has everything turned in and it is his best work. He is always willing to help me out around the classroom and always is in a positive mood. He gets along with his peers well and doesn't have behavior issues with anyone. I know I can always count on him for being a good example for other students to follow. Rian McKinney: Rian is the sweetest, most helpful girl. She is always asking if she can do anything for me in the classroom. She is kind to everyone and gives her best effort on her work. Rylee Tisdale: Rylee is a hard worker and a very responsible student. She is a friend to all and always has a positive attitude!
It’s 8th grade night for the wrestling team! Come on out to WCHS to cheer them on at 5:00! Student recognition at 4:50.
Good morning Beverly Manor Guardians, Don’t forget that parents must use the drop off lane in the morning and pick up lane in the afternoon. There is no thru traffic (short cut drop off) from 7:30-8:05. During pick up, kids should meet you in the pick up lane away from the bus pick up. Traffic jams aren’t fun, but kids are our priority so safety trumps short cuts. Thank you!
Congratulations to the Central Trojans! The Wildcats wish you the best of luck as your 7th grade team competes for 3rd place in state and your 8th grade team prepares for state as well. Good luck and go Washington!

Dear Washington District 50 Staff Members and Parents, The safety of students and staff is our top priority. We are writing to inform you that we have been notified that a student at Beverly Manor School recently tested positive for Parvovirus B19. Administration contacted the Tazewell County Health Department and they recommended we pass along the information listed below to staff members and parents. (1) Parvovirus B19 commonly causes fifth disease and is not a reportable infectious disease. (2) Symptoms usually show up as a mild rash illness in children. Adults can also get infected with parvovirus B19 resulting in fifth disease too. Less common symptoms include painful or swollen joints, which is more common in adults. About two out of 10 people who get infected with the virus will have no symptoms. (3) The incubation period is 14 days, so parents should monitor their children for up to two weeks to see if they display any of the above listed symptoms. Based on information that the school has received from the family, we believe this particular child would have been able to transmit the virus sometime between December 30, 2019 and January 12, 2020, some of which would have been during winter break. Transmission is no longer an issue for this particular child. (4) Parvovirus B19 spreads, similar to a cold, when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It can also spread through blood or blood products. A pregnant woman who is infected with parvovirus B19 can pass the virus to her baby. Any pregnant woman who may have been exposed should contact their obstetrician or health care provider as soon as possible. (5) There is no vaccine or medicine that can prevent parvovirus B19 infection. You can reduce your chances of being infected or infecting others by (a) washing your hands often with soap and water, (b) covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, (c) not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, (d) avoiding close contact with people who are sick, and (e) staying home when you are sick. (6) The Tazewell County Health Department said to refer staff and parents to the CDC’s website for detailed information concerning Parvovirus B19 and Fifth Disease via the following link. https://www.cdc.gov/parvovirusb19/about-parvovirus.html Again, the safety of students and staff is our top priority. If you have additional questions, you may contact me at (309) 745-8914 or the Tazewell County Health Department at (309) 925-5511. Sincerely, Chad Allaman, Superintendent

Several students in Ms. Houlahan's 6th grade helped in a community service project by visiting our high traffic library and doing some tidying up for Mrs. Burmeister. It was great to see them lending a hand and donating some of their time for a good cause! Several of them wrote about their experience and how to help in other ways. Check it out below: I cleaned the library by cleaning the chairs and tables, dusting the book shelves and air vents. I felt great when I was done cleaning the library. I can help others by helping them in work, helping them by wrapping gifts, help them with something that they don’t know or don’t know it yet, help them if they are stuck on something, I can help them on anything if I know how to do it. By cleaning the house I am helping my mom and dad. --- What I did to help clean the library: I dusted and I did the lint roller, cleaned the tables and chairs. How I felt after I cleaned the library: I felt calm and happy. What other things I can do to help other people: I can help my parents, by being nice and help clean and giving them a gift. --- What I did to help clean the library: I cleaned the chairs, vents and dusted. How I felt after I cleaned the library: I felt good and proud of myself. What other things I can do to help other people: I can do the same thing I did in the library and more like, clean the windows when I’m at home, I can clean the wood in the house, I can clean my room and feed my pets. When I clean my house I help my mom. --- To clean the library I did the lint roller, Cleaned tables, cleaned chairs, and I also dusted shelves. After I cleaned the Library It felt Good helping someone That needed help cleaning. I can help more people, like my mom, to clean the house.

Read on to hear about our students and what great things they are doing to show Wildcat Pride. Morgan Carlyle: Morgan always comes to school ready to learn and in such a positive attitude that fills the room. Morgan has really come out of her shell this year and has made great improvements in both reading and math! She is a great helper around the room when I need a hand, and she never complains when given a task to complete. Charlie Meinders: He is always supportive of other students, participates in everything. He is so very kind and courteous. Austin Kaufmann: Austin does a very good job with working with others and helping them out if they need assistance. He always has a positive attitude and has not gotten in trouble in my class once this year. He is always asking to help me out in the classroom and never complains if I ask him to do something. He is a great friend to others and even goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone gets along and to keep others on track. Finn Johnson: Finn is a new student to Beverly Manor but has already proven to be an outstanding member of our student body. He is consistently cooperative and respectful to all of his teachers. WASHINGTON, ILLINOIS August 28, 2019 PRESS RELEASE On August 27, 2019 a handwritten note containing threatening language was discovered near the main entrance to Beverly Manor School in Washington, Illinois. The note was written on a stationary note card in what appeared to be the handwriting of a student. Officials at District 50 Schools commenced an investigation and contacted the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office upon discovery of the note. After a brief investigation, school officials were able to identify the student responsible. The middle school student admitted writing the note and expressed remorse for the misconduct. While it appears that the student did not intend to carry out the threat, the district and law enforcement take all threats seriously. School disciplinary consequences will be imposed. The matter has also been referred to the Tazewell County States Attorney’s Office for juvenile proceedings. School officials urge parents to discuss with their children the importance of telling an adult right away if they hear or witness anyone make a threat toward the school or anyone at school. In addition, parents should reinforce the District message to their children that serious consequences from the school and law enforcement await anyone making such threats. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
